A week after the tragic - and possibly preventable - death of Scott Kalitta, the best drag racers in the world were back to business. Hoping for something special this weekend, Scott Kalitta's teammates are back after pulling out of competition at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. With that, Hillary Will and Doug Kalitta have made the field in the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk. Hillary is 7th and Kalitta is 16th.
Major developments in Funny Car. Gary Scelzi and Melanie Troxel have been disqualified from the event at Norwalk, further penalties will probably be coming.
Robert Hight, who last week took a slow pass down the Englishtown dragstrip in memory of Scott Kalitta, is the top qualifier at Norwalk. Karma is not always a bad thing. Points leader Tim Wilkerson qualified 3rd, Ashley Force qualified 8th, and John Force qualified 10th.
NHRA has come under intense scrutiny over speed and shutdown policies after Kalitta slammed head-on into what looked like, but was not, a concrete wall at the top end of Englishtown's dragstrip.
This is a developing story. CompetitionPlus.com contributed to this report.
