This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series head back to Pocono for the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500. After a week of constant criticism, NASCAR and Goodyear are looking forward to putting the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway behind them and getting back to action packed racing that fans deserve. There are many things that can make or break the race for teams at Pocono, particularly pit strategy. Pocono is one of the few tracks where a driver can pit under green and not lose a lap. Pit strategy may come into play as the laps wind down. Getting through the corners at the triangle track will also become an issue, as was the case in the race in June. Here are some drivers to watch on Sunday.
- Jimmie Johnson has rebounded his season and is hoping to keep the momentum going. After winning the heat races at Indy Motor Speedway, Johnson is hoping to capture his second win in a row in Pocono. Johnson has always run well at the track, sweeping both races in 2004. Johnson had a solid performance at the race in June, leading 59 laps and finishing sixth. Look for Johnson at the front of the pack all race long, competing for a victory.
- Brian Vickers has been one of the most improved drivers this season. Despite some mistakes and bad luck earlier in the season, Vickers is looking to capture his second career victory, and first victory for Red Bull Racing. After finishing second at the race in June, Vickers is one of the favorites to compete for a victory on Sunday. Look for a dominant Vickers competing for a victory throughout the race.
- This season, Kasey Kahne has recovered from a dismal 2007 and has not stopped yet. Despite having a few bad races, Kahne has already shown he is Chase material capturing three victories this season, including the Sprint All Star race. Kahne won the Pocono 500 in June from the pole, and will look to sweep the Pocono races this weekend.
- Denny Hamlin is always a factor at Pocono. Hamlin, who has two wins at the track, has four top 5's in five starts. He currently has the best average finish among all drivers at the track. Despite a slow start to his season, Hamlin is looking to had hardware to his trophy case, and can do so by capturing his second win of the season at the track in the Pennsylvania mountains.
