Fike's Drug Admission Should Open the Eyes of NASCAR PDF Print E-mail

Last summer, when former Craftsman Truck Series driver Aaron Fike was arrested for possession of heroin in the parking lot of an amusement park, it struck me as a tragedy that another person had succumbed to drug addiction. I didn't really give it another thought because it seemed that only he and his girlfriend were affected by their decisions. Fike, though, has revealed in an interview with ESPN that he not only struggled with drug addiction for several years, but that he had also used heroin on race days. Aaron Fike's admission of being under the influence of drugs while driving in a motorsports event should open the eyes of both fans and sanctioning bodies to the continuing use of drugs by drivers and crew members.

Kyle Busch took his #51 Toyota to victory lane in the Craftsman Truck Series San Bernadino 200. The trucks packed in together early on, but as soon as he made it to the front of the pack, it was once again the Kyle Busch show. The victory in Fontana comes after a second place finish at Daytona International Speedway last week.  The only driver who was able to challenge Kyle Busch for the win was Todd Bodine, who won at Daytona last weekend.

    Craftsman

Sears, the parent company of Craftsman, has announced that it will no longer be the sponsor of the NASCAR Truck Series after the 2008 season. At this time, NASCAR has yet to announce any replacement sponsor for the Truck Series, which has had Craftsman as its title sponsor since its inception in 1995. This will become the third change in title sponsors in 2 years for NASCAR. Earlier in 2007 Nextel and Busch announced that they will no longer be primary sponsors for the top two racing series in NASCAR.
