Danica Patrick led only three laps on the evening, inhereiting the lead and the win in an exchange of late race pit stops. She could've won lots on Vegas tonight, her gamble has paid off.
“It’s a long time coming. Finally,” Danica said, while teary-eyed over the emotion of the moment. “I was managing to save fuel and keep the speed up and when I saw Helio I knew he was the one to beat.”
“Thank you to Andretti Green. Thanks to to my teammates,” she said.
Danica won by 5.859 seconds over pole-sitter Helio Castroneves after Scott Dixon, who appeared to have the race all but wrapped up, had to pit to get fuel.
Dixon finished 3rd. Dixon's Gannassi teammate, Wheldon, finished 4th and Tony Kannan finished 5th.
