Ashley Force Celebrates in Atlanta

BREAKING NEWS: A week after Danica Patrick made history in the IndyCar Series, Ashley Force made history in the NHRA. Ashley Force becomes the first woman in NHRA history to win in the Funny Car bracket.

When it's your day, it's your day, and it was going to take more than a little bit of rain to wash out Ashley Force's parade. Despite being told to shut down their motors after firing them up, both Ashley Force and her father John decided to go off the tree despite the weather.

In a classic battle of father vs. daughter, it was daughter who took the win. Ashley Force took off early, with a tenth of a second reaction time, beating John off the tree. It was over from there, John Force's chances went up in smoke as Ashley Force streaked across the quarter-mile to pick up her first career NHRA Funny Car victory.

Despite the weather, Ashley Force ran an impressive 4.837 seconds at 320.36 MPH. That was more than enough to beat John Force's near-86 mph run, caused when Force spun his tires. That was Ashley Force's quickest pass of the weekend.

Ashley Force's historic win prolongs out John Force's historic moment of breaking 1,000 in round wins. This was her 27th career start.

Oh, by the way, Ashley Force extended her historic point lead in the FC bracket to 59-points over Tim Wilkerson.

Anton Brown (Top Fuel), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock), and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won in their respective brackets.
