Dario Franchitti wins the IndyCar Series Championship

By Andy Marquis on Saturday, 10th October 2009

The 200 lap, 300 mile race, was the second fastest race in IndyCar Series history with an average speed of 204 mph. They ran the entire race caution-free with only three cars finishing on the lead lap.

Scott Dixon and Ryan Briscoe swapped the lead several times during the race, while Franchitti ran a fuel-conservation race. Franchitti felt he could not keep up with the leaders and he needed to be on a different fuel strategy. Dixon and Briscoe had to pit late, handing the lead, and the win, to Dario Franchitti.
