The 200 lap, 300 mile race, was the second fastest race in IndyCar Series history with an average speed of 204 mph. They ran the entire race caution-free with only three cars finishing on the lead lap.
Scott Dixon and Ryan Briscoe swapped the lead several times during the race, while Franchitti ran a fuel-conservation race. Franchitti felt he could not keep up with the leaders and he needed to be on a different fuel strategy. Dixon and Briscoe had to pit late, handing the lead, and the win, to Dario Franchitti.
