What is typically a sunny Southern California was covered by rain on Friday, as practice and qualifying were both rained out at the newly renamed Auto Club Speedway. Despite the rain, the drivers felt confident that they will do well at the track, as the teams tested there in January. There are many drivers who need to make up for the poor performance at Daytona. As such, here are the drivers to look for at the race on Sunday:
Jimmie Johnson is looking to makeup for the poor performance at Daytona last week. Johnson, who won the race at the Auto Club speedway last September typically does well at the track in his home state. Johnson, along with all his Hendrick teammates, performed well during testing at the track last month. A win at California will give his team the boost they need. Jimmie Johnson starts on the pole on Sunday.
Matt Kenseth has won the last two February Sprint Cup races at the Auto Club Speedway. Like Johnson, Kenseth would like to have a better showing this week after wrecking out of the Daytona 500 last week. Kenseth has a very good grasp of how the track drives and as a result will be a contender for a win on Sunday. Look for Kenseth to roll out fourth on Sunday.
Kyle Busch has been on a roll the last few weeks. After performing well during testing at the track in Janurary, Busch had a dominating showing at Daytona. In addition to the younger Busch's excellent driving, the Toyota cars have been strong early in the season. Look for Shrub to stay at the front of the pack the entire day.
